Zaiser MHI Hospitality Corporation is a self-advised hotel investment company organized in August 2004 that has qualified as a real estate investment trust, or REIT, for federal income tax purposes. As a REIT, MHI owns eight hotel properties with 1,973 rooms as of October 31, 2007. The company's hotels operate under well-known national hotel brands such as Hilton, InterContinental Hotels Groups and Starwood Hotels and Resorts. In order for MHI Hospitality to qualify as a REIT, it cannot operate its hotels; therefore the properties are leased to MHI Hospitality TRS, LLC, which in turn has engaged MHI Hotels Services, LLC, an eligible independent management company, to manage the hotels.
